Why I chose to train with the multi-award winning Katy Jobbins

It was an evening in March 2020, I’d just been put on furlough by the company I was working for as a consequence of the pandemic. I was watching Rich House Poor House on Channel 5. It featured Katy Jobbins who was a multi-award winning permanent makeup artist and one of the UK’s leading permanent makeup trainers. She has trained permanent makeup artists from America, Croatia, Russia, Poland, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, South Africa, Spain and all over the UK.

Despite having not worked in the beauty industry before, I’ve always had a passion for beauty treatments and makeup (I am used as a source of constant knowledge for my family and friends!) and have always performed my own beauty treatments at home, so I was inspired to do more research and I contacted Katy and her husband Paul later that week. Katy was fully booked for 2020 but Paul rang me the next day to say they had just had an unexpected cancellation for September and it was then I started my journey down in East Sussex with Katy as my trainer and mentor. Yes, I could have found someone more local to train with but I wanted the best.

A key part of the training program was to complete a signifiant amount of theory and assessment work ahead of the practical training with Katy, so I felt really prepared and excited for it to begin. I was a little star struck when I met her, she has inspired so many talented and hard working women with many of them going on to win their own awards. One of these multi-award winning women was Kaley Franks who Katy had previous trained and I was privileged to do her powder brows during my training and she was delighted with the results.

Katy’s training is on a one to one basis so I had her undivided attention. It was inspiring watching her meet and speak to clients, taking the time to understand what they wanted to achieve and giving her expert recommendation.

During my training I had the opportunity to perform permanent makeup treatments on models of different ages, skin types and skin tones and who wanted to achieve different outcomes. My time was filled with smiles and some happy tears from clients and I left knowing I had made the right decision. I was delighted to return a year later for further training.

Katy has over 13 years experience of performing permanent makeup treatments and is endlessly passionate about her industry and continues to develop and inspire those she trains.
