How Do I Know What Colour Lip Blush Will Suit Me?

If you’re thinking about getting a lip blush treatment, one of the first questions that may pop into your mind is: “What colour will suit me best?”

Choosing the right shade isn’t just about picking your favourite lipstick colour—it’s about enhancing your natural beauty in a way that feels effortlessly you.

I take a personalised approach to colour selection to ensure your result is subtle, flattering, and designed to last 1–3 years. Here’s how we work together to find your perfect lip blush shade:

1. We Start with a Conversation

Before anything else, we talk about what you’re hoping to achieve. You might already have a clear idea of what suits you or you might not be sure yet, and that’s absolutely fine. I’m here to guide you through the options and recommend what will work best for your unique features, preferences, and lifestyle.

2. I Assess Your Undertones, Lip Value & Opacity Needs

To find the most flattering shade for you, I look at three key factors:

a. Your Undertones
This is a vital part of colour theory. Whether your skin has cool (pink or blue), warm (yellow or golden), or neutral undertones helps determine which colours will best enhance your complexion and lips.

b. Your Natural Lip Value
Value refers to how light or dark your natural lip colour is. For example, if you have pale lips and fair skin, and your lip line is difficult to define, we might deepen the value to help your lips stand out. On deeper lips with darker areas, I might adjust the value so the colour heals rich and is consistently even.

c. The Desired Level of Opacity
Are you looking for a soft, sheer wash of colour—or a more defined, lipstick-like finish? The level of opacity can affect the final look, and it’s important to match it to both your goals and what your skin and lips will suit best.

3. Swatching: The Custom Colour Test

Once we’ve narrowed down the best options, I’ll custom-mix your pigment and swatch it directly onto your lips. This step is essential, because how a colour looks in the bottle—or even on your hand—isn’t a reliable indicator of how it will appear on your lips once healed.

Swatching allows us to:

  • See how the colour interacts with your natural lip tone

  • Check how warm, cool, or neutral it appears on you

  • Make adjustments if needed, right there and then

It’s a crucial (and fun!) part of the process that helps you feel confident and excited about your results.

It’s a Collaborative Process

The goal of lip blush is to enhance and not overpower your natural features. That’s why I make sure you’re involved in every step of the decision-making process. Your preferences, comfort level, and goals all play a key role.

Whether you're after a barely-there sheer lip tint or a soft, wearable pop of colour, we’ll find a shade that complements you perfectly and feels completely you.

This client had quite pale pink lips that were cool toned. We wanted to create a warmer and deeper rosy pink. We wanted her lips to appear fuller and more defined but still to look natural.

On the left you can see the swatching process. On the right you can see her lips straight after the lip blush treatment, the slight shine is from the healing balm I apply at the end. She was delighted. When they have healed the colour will be softer.
